1. Introduction
Welcome to Sell in May. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This privacy policy explains how Sell in May handles data—or more accurately, how we don't handle your personal data, because we don't collect any.
No data collection
Sell in May does not collect any personal information. We do not:
- Collect your name, email, or any identifying information
- Require user accounts or registration
- Track your usage or behavior
- Use analytics or tracking services
- Share data with third parties (because we have no data to share)
- Store your stock selections or analysis history on our servers
2. Local processing
100% on-device processing
All analysis runs entirely on your iPhone. Your device does all the work:
- Market regime detection
- Pattern matching algorithms
- AI forecasting (if enabled)
- Technical indicator calculations
- Probabilistic scenario generation
No data is sent to external servers for processing. Everything happens locally on your device.
3. Internet usage
Sell in May only uses the internet to retrieve public market data from free data sources:
- Yahoo Finance - For current and historical stock prices
- FRED (Federal Reserve Economic Data) - For economic indicators (optional, requires your API key)
- Stooq - As a fallback source for extended historical data
Important: The app only downloads publicly available market data. It does not send any information about you, your device, or your usage to these services.
4. Data storage
All data is stored locally on your device:
- Market Data Cache - Stock prices and economic indicators are cached locally for offline access
- App Settings - Your preferences and configuration are stored on your device
- FRED API Key - If you provide a FRED API key, it is stored securely in your device's keychain (not transmitted to us)
We do not have access to any of this data. It exists only on your device and is never transmitted to our servers (because we don't have any servers).
5. What we don't do
To be completely clear, Sell in May does not:
- Collect personal information
- Require user accounts
- Use cloud services or backends
- Track your activity or usage
- Use analytics or tracking SDKs
- Share data with advertisers or third parties
- Store your stock selections or analysis history
- Send any data to external servers (except public market data requests)
6. Third-party services
Sell in May accesses the following public data sources:
- Yahoo Finance - Public market data API
- FRED (Federal Reserve) - Public economic data API (optional, requires your API key)
- Stooq - Public financial data API
These are public APIs that provide market data. We do not send any information about you to these services—only requests for publicly available market data.
Note: When you use FRED integration, you provide your own API key directly to the app. We never see or store your API key—it's stored securely in your device's keychain.
7. Data retention and deletion
Since all data is stored locally on your device:
- You control all data retention
- Deleting the app removes all cached data and settings
- You can clear cached market data at any time through Settings
- We don't retain any data because we don't collect any
8. Your rights
You have complete control:
- Access: All data is on your device—you can view it anytime
- Delete: Delete the app or clear data through Settings
- Control: Configure what data is cached and when
- Privacy: Your analysis is completely private—we can't see it because it never leaves your device
9. Children's privacy
Our app does not collect any information from anyone, including children. Since we don't collect data, we don't collect data from children either. The app is suitable for users of all ages who are interested in market analysis.
10. Security
Since all processing happens on your device and no data is transmitted:
- Your data security depends on your device's security
- We recommend using standard iOS security features (passcode, Face ID, Touch ID)
- No data is at risk from our servers because we don't have any
- Your FRED API key (if provided) is stored in iOS Keychain, Apple's secure storage system
11. Changes to this privacy policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time to reflect changes in the app or clarify our practices. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the new privacy policy on this page and updating the "Effective Date" at the top. Since we don't collect contact information, we can't email you about changes—please check this page periodically.
